Former president of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Student Representative Council (SRC) Hlomela Bucwa is now South Africa’s youngest Member of Parliament.

Bucwa added another colourful feather to her star-studded crown on November 10 when she was sworn into Parliament alongside two other DA MPs.

Following Bucwa’s remarkable feat, the smart lady now takes over the title of South Africa’s Youngest MP from Yusuf Cassim.

Bucwa who is currently doing her final year in law at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), says her political journey started in high school. Although at the time she had no idea that she would end up in Parliament, she knew that she wanted to fight for the rights of others.

The 24-year-old Hlomela Bucwa impressed many during her maiden speech on the 21st of Februay in Parliament.
